Tinariwen

Tinariwen is a Tuareg collective formed in the late 1970s among refugee communities in southern Algeria. Pioneers of a sound they call assouf, weaving electric guitar with Tamasheq poetic tradition, the group turned desert music into a language heard worldwide. Their path, from cassette tapes circulating between Tamanrasset and Kidal to a 2012 Grammy Award for Best World Music Album, is inseparable from the Tuareg cause and from Amazigh memory.
